MIND CONTROL
What is mind control ?
Is it desirable ?
Is it similar to meditation ?
Is it a brain wash ?
Is hypnosis a kind of mind control ?
Can one enrich oneself by mind control ?
Is mind control a ‘transitionary bliss’ ?
Let us look at some of the issues….
Mind Control is the establishment of that specific state in which the individual is completely liberated from all unintended and previously uncontrolled thought-forms. He is a master over his being, over his mind and he enjoys the bliss, wisdom and power of being absolutely free: Free from the mind, hence free from desire, mental limitations and free from suffering.
It is a process called Self Realization or Enlightenment: Freeing yourself from the conditioned mind establishes the most profound experience of joy and inner freedom. (http://www.yoga-mind-control.com/)
MEDITATION
An ordinary person may consider meditation as a worship or prayer. But it is not so. Meditation means awareness. Whatever you do with awareness is meditation. "Watching your breath" is meditation; listening to the birds is meditation. As long as these activities are free from any other distraction to the mind, it is effective meditation.
Meditation is not a technique but a way of life. Meditation means 'a cessation of the thought process' . It describes a state of consciousness, when the mind is free of scattered thoughts and various patterns . The observer (one who is doing meditation) realizes that all the activity of the mind is reduced to one.
A Tibetan Lama was being monitored on a brain scan machine by a scientist wishing to test physiological functions during deep meditation. The scientist said - "Very good Sir. The machine shows that you are able to go very deep in brain relaxation, and that validates your meditation". "No", said the Lama, "This (pointing to his brain) validates the machine!".( http://www.healthandyoga.com/)
Hypnosis
According to Wikipedia…
Hypnosis is a mental state (state theory) or set of attitudes (non state theory) usually induced by a procedure known as a hypnotic induction, which is commonly composed of a series of preliminary instructions and suggestions. Hypnotic suggestions may be delivered by a hypnotist in the presence of the subject ("hetero-suggestion"), or may be self-administered ("self-suggestion" or "autosuggestion"). The use of hypnotism for therapeutic purposes is referred to as "hypnotherapy".
Although a popular misconception is that hypnosis is a form of unconsciousness resembling sleep, contemporary research suggests that it is actually a wakeful state of focused attention[1] and heightened suggestibility,[2] with diminished peripheral awareness.
Wikipedia goes on to describe mind control….[
Mind control is a broad range of psychological tactics able to subvert an individual's control of his or her own thinking, behavior, emotions, or decisions. There are a number of controversial issues regarding mind control and the methods by which control might be attained (either direct or more subtle) are the focus of study among psychologists, neuroscientists, and sociologists. The question of mind control has been discussed in relation to religion, politics, prisoners of war, totalitarianism, black operations, neural cell manipulation, cults, terrorism, torture etc.
Is mind control desirable ?
Excerpt from …http://jaisivananda.blogspot.com/
“Swami Satyanandaji says something akin to this: Acceptance of the mind is a very important attitude, especially during the practice of mantra. To live with our own thoughts and feelings is very difficult
If you have any ailments, trying to control the mind will further aggravate it! No other guru has had the guts to say this! He says: "If you want to get rid of hypertension, blood pressure or coronary stress, and you are trying to make the mind tranquil, you can expect another heart attack. Tranquility is an ideal. Man has to learn to live with reality. Nature is living with stress.
during the period when you practice mantra, the wilder the mind becomes, the better it is for you. It is not clarity, tranquility or passivity of mind that is required. The most important thing is to face the mind -- to see the entire process.”

OSHO ON MEDITATION
1. Meditation is not contemplation either because it is not thinking at all -- consistent, inconsistent, crazy, sane. It is not thinking at all; it is witnessing. It is just sitting silently deep within yourself, looking at whatsoever is happening inside and outside both. Outside there is traffic noise, inside there is also traffic noise -- the traffic in the head. So many thoughts -- trucks and buses of thoughts and trains and airplanes of thoughts, rushing in every direction. But you are simply sitting aloof, unconcerned, watching everything with no evaluation.
2. So meditation is not really mind-effort. Real meditation is not effort at all. Real meditation is just allowing the mind to have its own way, and not interfering in any way whatsoever -- just remaining watchful, witnessing. It silences, by and by, it becomes still. One day it is gone. You are left alone.
Our Take
We shall go with Osho….
To sum up…as Osho puts it….
You are the witness, to whom things happen but who remains a witness. Witnessing is the art of ‘no identification’, and ‘no identification’ is all there is to meditation. It is the whole meditation.
So dear friends….
You wish to MIND CONTROL….???
Or have a WITNESSING ATTITUDE ????
Take your pick….but these distinctions are subtle…..so better be MINDFUL !!!
Good Luck !
