SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY

While more than enough has been written on psychoanalysis….we feel that social psychology is a subject that needs some more brain-storming!

Many theories/postulates have been thrown up at us, Some prominent ones are :

‘Games’ people play
Transaction Analysis
How to win friends….etc. etc…

But…alas….we mortals are still not sure….how to conduct in a group setting!

There are purists…who might argue….that there is enough literature in OB (organizational behavior) that explains group dynamics….. Yes it is true! OB has done a lot!

But the sad part….as we look at it….is:

OB or TA or Sensitivity Training….all these are looking inside-out….and trying to make an individual respond (correctly) in a given situation….but what probably is needed now…is an out-side-in approach :

 To understand in a better way: HOW GROUPS BEHAVE and HOW THEY AFFECT an INDIVIDUAL

Indian Knowledge system is extremely rich and there are valuable insights into man vs. god!

But what about man vs. man…. and men vs. men???

Psychologists tend to be too micro….and sociologists are generally… overly macro !

It is time that we looked at social psychology with a little more seriousness!!!
