Slum Dog Millionaire

But what has dogged a certain set of sensitive souls is the usage of the word ‘dog’
It has been argued that slum dog is a coinage ….combining two words:
Underdog and a slum dweller!
To quote certain relevant text from the internet:
Slumdog Millionaire is a 2008 British-Indian drama film directed by Danny Boyle and written by Simon Beaufoy. It is based on the Booker Prize winning novel Q and A by Indian author and diplomat Vikas Swarup.
Set and filmed in India, Slumdog Millionaire tells the story of a young man from the slums of Mumbai who appears on a game show and exceeds people's expectations, arousing the suspicions of the game show host and of law enforcement officials.
The term slumdog in the title of the film may mean the story line that a young man from the slums has risen to win a fortune.
Well…underdogs are the favorites…generally! Aren’t they?
But what happens if they are the slum dwellers?
The hurt sentiments ….to put a point of view across….. May be justified?!?
But then…when the word underdog would have been used for the first time….eyebrows surely would have been raised!
