Indian Elections

“An election cannot give a country a firm sense of direction if it has two or more national parties which merely have different names but are as alike in their principles and aims as two peas in the same pod”Franklin D. Roosevelt

While the Indian elections are round the corner….the above observation might hold true…even now….and almost always !

There is a great deal of excitement….mostly media-driven…
“ It cant get bigger than this” is how one leading TV Channel is describing it !

But if one takes a fence-sitter’s position and look at the whole thing…then one has this to report: ( and nothing new ….one is actually reporting !)

While the real issues of Governance , National Security and Economics have taken the back-burner…..religion….caste …and criminality are in  the focus !

There is a dearth of real leaders….and an abundance of king makers.

Fractured Parliament…..this is what most pundits are predicting….and horse-trading would be  the only option ….when electing the ruling party….or the PM.

And now a parting thought…..

"Each candidate behaved well in the hope of being judged worthy of election. However, this system was disastrous when the city had become corrupt. For then it was not the most virtuous but the most powerful who stood for election, and the weak, even if virtuous, were too frightened to run for office." Niccolo Machiavelli
