Two diametrically opposite views on anger…..
The world needs anger. The world often continues to allow evil because it isn't angry enough. ~Bede Jarrett
He who angers you conquers you. ~Elizabeth Kenny
Wikipedia defines anger as….. “Anger is an emotional state that may range from minor irritation to intense rage. The physical effects of anger include increased heart rate, blood pressure, and levels of adrenaline and noradrenaline. Some view anger as part of the fight or flight brain response to the perceived threat of harm.”
Like most things…anger is neither good or bad…..
The negatives of anger could be:
Loss of a friend/situation/relationship
Increase in heart rate/headaches/health risks
Loss of face….even punitive action….for an indiscrete act in a fit of rage !
Unpopularity
Remorse….after the indiscretion
The positives could be:
You can get things done….especially in a laid back scenario
Change can be brought about ….especially against injustice
You are often heard or respected if you are angry…(up to a limit)
Anger Management
Wikipedia states….
“The term Anger management commonly refers to a system of psychological therapeutic techniques and exercises by which someone with excessive or uncontrollable anger can control or reduce the triggers, degrees, and effects of an angered emotional state.
One technique for controlling anger is finding agreement with another person rather than a conflict. In some countries, courses in anger management may be mandated by their legal system.
The use of deep breathing and meditation can be used as a means of relaxation. Other interventions include learning empathy, stress management skills, forgiveness, changing how you speak about yourself or others and improving optimism. As the issue of anger varies from person to person, the treatments are designed to be personal to the individual.”
How to resolve ….or dissolve ….?
“Anger will never disappear so long as thoughts of resentment are cherished in the mind. Anger will disappear just as soon as thoughts of resentment are forgotten.” Gautam Budha
“Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.” Gautam Budha
“There are two things a person should never be angry at, what they can help, and what they cannot.”Plato
So dear readers…..if you are often angry at trivial things…..remember this….
“For every minute you remain angry, you give up sixty seconds of peace of mind.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
