A Victory for Gays....
A phenomenal judgment ....
``Indian constitutional law does not permit the statutory criminal law to be held captive by the popular misconceptions of who the LGBTs (lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders) are. It cannot be forgotten that discrimination is antithesis of equality and that it is the recognition of equality which will foster the dignity of every individual.''
``There is almost unanimous medical and psychiatric opinion that homosexuality is not a disease or a disorder and is just another expression of human sexuality,''
Court said:
"Moral indignation, howsoever strong, is not a valid basis for overriding individuals' fundamental rights of dignity and privacy. In our scheme of things Constitutional morality must outweigh the argument of public morality, even if it be the majoritarian view," the court said in its ruling. Going even further, the court found that Section 377 went against the Indian tradition and guiding political principle of inclusiveness."
This is a historical statement made by an Indian court.
Gays are now happy. They are celebrating...
This is what Suneet Varma ....a famous designer from India said...
"This is a landmark victory. We're a secular nation, and every being should have the right to choose their religion. And also make their sexual choices. This gives us the freedom of making personal choices. I feel the government has given me my dignity and right to choose the way I wish to live."
"I came out in the open about my sexuality from a young age. I never feared that I'd be ridiculed. How could I say otherwise, when my homesexuality was in my DNA. I meet young people who are similar, on the crossroads of deciding what their sexuality is — I find them eaily disturbed, depressed and sad. If they're not strong they become alcoholics. They're scared to face reality."
There are many bold votaries of gay relations and bi-sexuality. 'Sex Goddess' Anjelina Jolie is a leading example of persons who have accepted their bi-sexuality....Brad Pitt notwithstanding !
But there are many 'unhappy' sections.....religious leaders .... politicians....
Are they living in some illusion ??? ( as usual )
