OK… ARE YOU REALLY OK?
( A book Synopsis)
By Bhaskar Benjamin
Poetic dialogue with the celebrated Persian poet/astronomer/tent maker….. OMAR KHAYYAM
Rejoinder to each of the 101 quatrain (Tetrastich)…in the same poetic meter….aaba
Based on English translation of the Rubaiyat…..
Note: Puritans/purists can rest their case….as this is a book on positive thinking….not a commentary on Omar Khayyam!!!
Introduction and sample dialogue….
This is a dialogue with a forgotten friend
Who probably lost his way…on a certain bend
Of life’s road…and to wine he turned
I wish… he saw a beginning ….in every end
For life’s road goes up and down
It’s true….for both rags and crown
But the road isn’t just full of holes…
There’s great beauty too….why drink and drown?
This dialogue…in fact, is with all those who
Can’t look at the heavenly fresh dropped dew
See life just as an endless toil…
And take as crutches…….this deadly brew !!!
Bhaskar to Omar :
Are you really Ok…..o my dear Omar ?
You’ve written great poetry….yes it does stir
Strange thoughts in me….some good some sad
But these DOUBTS! O ‘ Omar…they lead us nowhere!
Sample Quatrains:
Omar:
For some we loved, the loveliest and the best
That from his vintage rolling time hath prest,
Have drunk their cup a round or two before
And one by one crept silently to rest
Bhaskar:
Things may come and things may go
Wash your hands in this heavenly flow
Don’t cry any more for the love that is lost
For love never loses…don’t you know !
Omar:
Alike for those for To-day prepare
And those that after some To-morrow stare
A Muezzin from the tower of darkness cries,
“Fools ! Your reward is neither Here nor There.”
Bhaskar:
A little hope and then… despair !
O Omar, do you think… this is fair ?
One moment …you talk almost like a saint…
Next moment you become King Doubter’s heir !
